Russia Has Equipped Syria With Their Most Advanced Anti-Ship Missiles

By Michael Snyder

Information Clearing House –  Russia has sold Syria highly advanced rocket launchers, anti-aircraft missiles and anti-ship missiles.  In fact, the P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles that Russia has equipped Syria with are the most advanced anti-ship missiles that Russia has.  When the United States strikes Syria, they might be quite surprised at how hard Syria can hit back.  The Syrian military is the most formidable adversary that the U.S. military has tangled with in the Middle East by far.  From Syria, P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles can cover much of the eastern Mediterranean and can even reach air bases in Cyprus.  If the U.S. Navy is not very careful to stay out of range, we could easily see footage of destroyed U.S. naval vessels sinking into the Mediterranean Sea on the evening news.  And once the American people see such footage, it will be impossible to stop a full-blown war between the United States and Syria.

Syria has highly advanced weapons systems that Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya did not have.  Anyone that thinks that we can just sit back and lob cruise missiles at them is being naive.  Syria has weapons that “have never before been seen” in the Middle East.  The following is from a recent article by Mac Slavo

According to the report from Syrian-based Dam Press and the Dyar Newspaper, the Russians aren’t backing off their Syria policy and they are getting ready to double down by supplying Assad’s military with weapons the have never before been seen in the middle east.

If and when Western forces engage the Syrian army you can be assured that it will be nothing like the 1991 conflict in Iraq when a hundred thousand of Saddam Hussein’s soldiers surrendered without firing a shot. Nor will it be a no-fly zone free-for-all where air forces will be able to target military assets as they did in Libya without being challenged.

No, this time will be different.

Posted below are some excerpts from a translation of the article from Syrian-based Dam Press that Mac Slavo mentioned…

The Patriot Missiles will be hit and repealed with S300 SAM [already installed in Syria]. Putin also threatened to deliver the more advanced S400 anti-aircraft missiles

—–

He added that Russia will also supply Syria with state-of-the-art 24-Barrell rocket launchers which have a range of 60 km ranked as the most developed artillery weapon of its kind.

—–

Putin clearly stated that the Middle East is going to witness a significant change.  Syria will be armed with weapons that have never been seen before [in the Middle East] including computer guided smart missiles that never miss their target.

He also added that Russia will supply Syria with Skean 5 ground-to-sea missiles that are capable of hitting and sinking any target up to 250 km off the Syrian coast.

The weapons systems mentioned in that article are very powerful.  For instance, the video posted below contains footage of the rocket launchers mentioned in the article…

But of most immediate concern for the U.S. military are the anti-ship missiles which Syria has reportedly acquired.

According to the New York Times, the P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles that Russia has sent to Syria are equipped with highly advanced radar capabilities…

Russia has sent advanced antiship cruise missiles to Syria, a move that illustrates the depth of its support for the Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad, American officials said Thursday.

Russia has previously provided a version of the missiles, called Yakhonts, to Syria. But those delivered recently are outfitted with an advanced radar that makes them more effective, according to American officials who are familiar with classified intelligence reports and would only discuss the shipment on the basis of anonymity.

These missiles have a range of approximately 180 miles, and they can do an extraordinary amount of damage…

The missiles are about 22 feet long, carry either a high-explosive or armor-piercing warhead, and have a range of about 180 miles, according to Jane’s.

They can be steered to a target’s general location by longer-range radars, but each missile has its own radar to help evade a ship’s defenses and home in as it approaches its target.

Two senior American officials said that the most recent shipment contained missiles with a more advanced guidance system than earlier shipments.

Posted below is video footage of a test firing of a P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missile…

And yes, these missiles have the range to hit targets in Cyprus.  Perhaps someone should tell U.S. military planners that it is probably not a good idea to be parking so much air power at bases there.

It also looks like the Syrians are going to have plenty of naval targets to shoot at as well.  According to Reuters, a U.S. carrier group will soon be joining the five U.S. destroyers that are already parked in the eastern Mediterranean…

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and other ships in its strike group are heading west toward the Red Sea to help support a limited U.S. strike on Syria, if needed, defense officials said on Sunday.

The Nimitz carrier strike group, which includes four destroyers and a cruiser, has no specific orders to move to the eastern Mediterranean at this point, but is moving west in the Arabian Sea so it can do so if asked. It was not immediately clear when the ships would enter the Red Sea, but they had not arrived by Sunday evening, said one official.

“It’s about leveraging the assets to have them in place should the capabilities of the carrier strike group and the presence be needed,” said the official.

In addition, ABC News says that an amphibious ship “with several hundred Marines aboard” is also parked in the eastern Mediterranean...

On Friday, the USS San Antonio, a Navy amphibious ship with several hundred Marines aboard, was ordered to remain in the eastern Mediterranean though defense officials said it too was not part of the U.S. military planning for a limited strike against Syria. Defense officials described the move as “a prudent decision should the ship’s capabilities be required.

The San Antonio was originally to be in the Mediterranean as part of a long-scheduled commitment to support U.S. Africa Command, several officials said. The ship was on its way to a port call at the U.S naval base at Souda Bay on the Greek Island of Crete when it was ordered to remain in the area.

The San Antonio has resources that could prove useful in future operations in the region. For example, the ship has several hundred Marines aboard from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), as well as several helicopters or V-22 Ospreys that could be useful in helping to rescue downed pilots.

So what do you think will happen if the Syrians are able to hit any of our ships or any of the air bases in Cyprus?

Do you think that there is any chance that we will be able to avoid a full-blown war at that point?

The criminal irresponsibility of western foreign policy

The criminal irresponsibility of western foreign policy

An unarmed Syrian civilian

Hardly a day has gone by since an apparent chemical weapons attack in rural Damascus and there is the British Foreign Secretary William Hague making insinuations virtually blaming the Syrian Government, jumping the gun on another mission creep as he and his partners performed in Libya. This is what could be termed criminal irresponsibility.

A case could be, and indeed has been, made to accuse William Hague and the political leadership of NATO countries of war crimes in Libya (*) and breach of international law in Syria, financing, aiding and supporting terrorist groups to destabilize the legitimate Government of the country. So after the recent track record of NATO, spear-headed by the FUKUS Axis (France-UK-US), after the lies, deception, skullduggery, cajoling, arrogance, bullying, blackmail and chauvinism which are buzz-words in FUKUS foreign policy, and always have been, who can believe a word they say?

Remember Saddam Hussein’s Weapons of Mass Destruction? Remember the “evidence” produced by the British intelligence services, which turned out to be a ten-year-old doctoral thesis copied and pasted from the net and “sexed-up” by the Blair regime?

Remember the yellow-cake uranium which the Iraqi government was supposed to be seeking from “Nigeria” (except the country selling it is Niger, and Iraq was not procuring any)? Remember the “immediate threat” posed by Iraq by its WMD (which it did not have) justifying the western crusade against this oil-rich and strategically crucial Middle Eastern country?

So now, when William Hague indulges yet again in what could be deemed criminal irresponsibility, insinuating that the Assad Government was responsible for a chemical weapons attack in rural Damascus, when as yet there is not one iota of evidence that it was not the “opposition” terrorists he and his Foreign and Commonwealth office supports, who is going to take any notice of what he or his French counterparts say? After all, they are merely doing the spadework for their master across the Atlantic, waiting patiently with its troops already in Jordan as junior bichon France and chief poodle Britain prepare public opinion with lies.

This is not responsible foreign policy, it is the very worst form of sinister manipulation of the truth, trying to create a causus belli where none exists. The declarations of William Hague should be examined by those who have the power to enforce international law and at the very least, his utter incompetence to hold his job should be revealed. His remarks after the chemical weapons attack that this should open the eyes of some who do not understand the cruelty of the Assad Government is a very puerile yet blatant attempt to apportion the blame before the course of due legal process. In making such a claim, William Hague is pitting himself against any form of legal investigation or any process of examination of evidence, trial and judgement.

In fact, William Hague represents the kangaroo courts of yesteryear, the Medieval witch-hunts in which women were summarily accused in public “She’s a witch!”, then placed on a witch chair and dipped under a river for five minutes. If she died, she was a witch; if she survived, she was innocent. He is not, therefore, competent to represent British foreign policy, which is supposed to be based upon ethics and the rule of law.

Any intelligent human being, and Hague apparently is neither, would ask what possible advantage the Assad Government would have deploying chemical weapons in an area where his forces are winning hands-down, on the eve of the UN inspection team beginning their work. Any intelligent analysis of the situation would question what advantage would be gained for the Government in gassing children and civilians.

Any intelligent appraisal would question why the so-called damning videos appeared on you-tube dated August 20, when the attacks were supposed to have taken place on August 21. Any balanced examination of the entire affair would have taken into account the UN’s own declarations in May that the “opposition” was indeed responsible for previous chemical weapons attacks, including with Sarin nerve gas. No advantage for the Government, every advantage for the “opposition”.

Anyone who knows what they are talking about would remember the opposition’s laboratories outed last year in which they were gassing live rabbits with nerve agents and anyone who knows what is happening on the ground is well aware that the terrorist groups and their Albanian/al-Qaeda/Afghan/Libyan mercenaries are losing in all areas of battle and have before used chemical weapons trying to apportion the blame on the Government.

And there is William Hague saying that those who support Syria’s Government should see its “murderous nature”. So let us ask William Hague to make a statement, right now, eye-to-eye, on the previous use of chemical weapons by his “opposition” forces, confirmed by the UNO in May.

But no, he will remain silent and will continue to behave like an outdated, interfering, manipulative, insolent and totally incompetent representative of his country’s policy.

The idiotic foreign policy of the USA

The idiotic foreign policy of the USA

The idiotic foreign policy of the USA. 50343.jpeg

Washington appears caught in the grip of an outdated, anachronistic and puerile, vapid, shallow foreign policy-making outfit controlled by intellectually limited political freaks of yesteryear, pandering to the whims of the lobbies that control them, insulting the collective intelligence of humankind and using lies to justify their evil plans.

I am not one of those who subscribes to the notion that all Americans are fat and stupid. My answer to those (racists/xenophobes) that say so is to ask them to try and get into an American University and then call them stupid. So, if the United States of America has such excellent schools of higher education and if the USA produces such excellent scholars, why does the country pursue such a puerile, shallow, anachronistic, outdated and idiotic foreign policy?

Let us take Syria as an example. After constant attempts to whitewash the Government as an “evil regime” failed, along with constant attempts to pin the Government of President Assad (which has the support of around 70 per cent of the Syrian people, more than Obama and Cameron combined), here we have the USA lying, once again, producing images from April, stating that the Syrian Government used Sarin gas.

And what do they use as evidence? The “broad range” of evidence, including “multiple” incidents of the use of chemical weapons by the “Syrian regime”, as Washington claims, is based upon some footage of anti-Assad terrorists lying in beds with shaving foam around their mouths, eyes blinking and alert, holding their heads and writhing around slowly.

Is that it? Apparently. Well, I could stage a better coup myself and a more realistic one. Chemical and biological weapons cover a broad array of weaponry but the symptoms I would show if I were trying to lie to the public would include people lying in their backs, motionless, eyes vacant, with foam but not shaving cream around the mouth, vomiting uncontrollably and generally looking like they were close to death. Certainly not blinking, holding their heads and moving around.

This particular “incident” in April was covered here in this column at the time, as were previous attempts to accuse the Syrian government of using chemical and biological weapons, including attempts to smuggle chemical weapons into Syria through Turkey and then stage a false flag event to justify a war, a military intervention. Basically, it is bullshit.

And let us go further: if President Obama states that the Syrian Government is using chemical or biological weapons, based upon this, then he is a barefaced liar. And if he does make such statements it is clear that it is not President Obama that runs the USA, it is Senator McCain and his disgusting, nasty, underhanded Republican band of warmongers. I thought he lost the election years back, together with his poodle, that screaming witch from Alaska, the darling of the tea party studies in ignorance.

If someone cuts her/himself with a knife cutting cheese, the first time it is called an accident. The second time without using a cutting board, it is carelessness. The third time, it is stupidity. Remember 9/11? There remain huge questions to be asked as to the veracity of the Pentagon strike, as to the monitoring of the entire event, from the then National Security Advisor, why who else? Condy Rice. Sterling job.

There are enormous questions to be asked about the veracity of the casus belli providing the background to the invasion of Iraq. Remember the claims that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction? OK then ten years on, where are they? Remember the claims that Saddam Hussein was using factories to produce chemical weapons, which turned out to be milk powder for babies? Remember the claims that Saddam Hussein was posing an immediate threat to the USA and its allies? Remember the claims that Saddam Hussein was procuring yellow-cake uranium from Niger to make nuclear weapons, when he didn’t even have a centrifuge working?

Remember the claims that Colonel Gaddafi was slaughtering his civilians and bombing them, when there was not a shred of evidence supporting such a claim?

The point is that the FUKUS Axis (France, UK, US) has tried this tack time and time again and fueled by a supporting bought media, has managed to whitewash public opinion, duping a gullible public brought up on chuckles, chortles and giggles based around belching on the Simpsons. And time and time again the “real” media has outed such claims as bullshit.

Yet they continue. What Washington does not say is that the anti-Assad (30%) faction contains increasing numbers of al-Qaeda operatives, as was the case in Iraq and Libya, what Washington does not say is that arming the terrorists would escalate the conflict, what Washington does not say is that NATO is providing support for the terrorists to operate through Turkey.

And NATO/FUKUS is failing. Hence the claim that the Syrian Government is using chemical/biological weapons. It is predictable as the child who claims it was not he who destroyed the entire collection of houseplants in the conservatory, but rather the plastic dinosaur he holds in his hand.

Is President Obama that plain stupid? Does he think his people are stupid? Or is he a barefaced liar? Who said “Change”? The man is a traitor to his word, an insult to humankind and a very bad example of a Nobel peace prizewinner. Let this be his political epitaph: he manages to be even worse than Bush.

Photo: President al-Assad visits Syrian soldier wounded by western-backed terrorist forces. Nice one, Barack! How many more are you going to fund to murder? How many more Syrian families are you going to destroy? Remember NATO’s cold-blooded murder of the Gaddafi grandchildren? Makes you happy? Nobel peace prize indeed…. Shame on you.

Syria: No wonder France and the UK were getting desperate

Syria: No wonder France and the UK were getting desperate

Syria: No wonder France and the UK were getting desperate. 50228.jpeg

France and the UK (F-UK), the poodle side of the alliance with the US (FUKUS), this week bullied their European Union partners into accepting a status quo in which the European Union disintegrates as a Union (merci) and each one goes it alone in terms of supplying the Syrian terrorists.

We saw this already in Iraq from the part of the UK, going it alone with the US and its wider alliance of hastily-stitched-together sycophants and lackeys which all turned a blind eye when the Weapons of Mass Destruction were not found (because they didn’t exist, as Saddam Hussein had said); we saw the US and UK mastermind a series of illegal raids, illegal retention’s and from the part of the UK, torture of prisoners. From the USA, the concentration camp at Abu Ghraib, where prisoners were raped, sodomized  tortured, deprived of food and sleep, you name it, and the same is going on at Guantanamo Bay concentration camp in Cuba, where the USA masterminds among the most shocking human rights abuses in history.

In Iraq, France had an attack of good-naturedness, in other words, for once, it followed international law and said that the war was illegal. It didn’t take much pressure from the USA to make France buckle spectacularly and today become one of the three prongs of the FUKUS Axis, doing Washington’s dirty work for it alongside le amiable poodle, les Anglaises.

Libya saw France rehabilitated as the leadership joined Cameron, that William Hague character, and Obama, in no doubt punching the air with fists clenched celebrating the murder of the Gaddafi grandchildren as legitimate targets; in Syria, the French are the first and foremost prong of the FUKUS Axis.

It comes as no surprise therefore that as the Syrian Armed Forces push relentlessly against the terrorist scourge unleashed by the west and supported by their bedboys Qatar and Saudi Arabia (shall we investigate what certain members of the said royal families have allegedly gotten up to in Morocco? Whoops! What would Mohammed say to THAT??) that France and the UK once again want to push through an arrogant and militarist agenda to support their rebels (terrorists), derided by the rest of Syrian society because they are getting their asses whipped.

The Syrian Armed Forces are standing up to the crack troops unleashed by NATO and al-Qaeda inside Syria; the Syrian Armed Forces are protecting Syria’s civilians against these demonic monsters and the lies being traded by the west are yet again shown up for what they are. The Free Syrian Army is a chimera, a front which is in fact an umbrella organization for al-Qaeda cells hiding behind it.

Yet again, the west has got it wrong, has sided with terrorists and will pay the consequences. He who plays with fire…

Former Bush Administration Official Blames Israel for Use of Chemical Arms in Syria

Former Bush Administration Official Blames Israel for Use of Chemical Arms in Syria

TEHRAN – Retired US Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, who once served as Secretary of State Colin Powell’s Chief of Staff, believes that the chemical weapons used in Syria may have been an Israeli “false flag” operation aimed at implicating Bashar Assad’s regime.

Wilkerson made his astounding assertion in an interview on Current TV, the network once owned by former Vice President Al Gore and recently purchased by Al-Jazeera, Haaretz reported.

Wilkerson said that the evidence that it was Assad’s regime that had used the chemical weapons was “flaky” and that it could very well have been the rebels or Israel who were the perpetrators. Asked why Israel would do such a thing, Wilkerson said, “I think we’ve got a basically geostrategically, geopolitical inept regime in Tel Aviv right now.”

“I think we saw really startling evidence of that,” Wilkerson continued, “in the fact that President Obama had to tell Bibi Netanyahu ‘Pick up the phone, you idiot, call Ankara and get yourself out of this strategic isolation you’re in right now.’”

A “false flag” operation is a covert attack on foreign or domestic soil carried out by governments or organizations under a false identity, aimed at placing blame on the enemy. It originates with a ruse once used in naval warfare in which ships would hoist the enemy’s flags in order to infiltrate his ranks.

Wilkerson,63, a former Army helicopter pilot who flew combat missions in Vietnam, served as Colin Powell’s chief of staff in 2002-2005. He was responsible for reviewing the intelligence information used by Powell in his by now infamous February 2003 United Nations Security Council appearance on Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.

After his retirement, Wilkerson described this presentation as “a hoax” and became an outspoken critic of the Bush Administration’s handling of the Iraq war. He now serves as a professor at Virginia’s William and Mary College and is a guest commentator on several US television networks.

Speaking on the Current’s Young Turks program, Wilkerson said that because of the instability in the Middle East, Israel’s current geo-strategic situation is “as dangerous as it’s been since 1948.” He added that President Obama “has got to be very circumspect about what he does in exacerbating that situation”.

“Netanyahu is clueless as to this,” Wilkerson said. “I hope President Obama gave him a lecture in geostrategic realities.”
