Hillary Rodham Clinton is hiding from the press
By JOHN HAMMER
The spin is incredible. Hillary Rodham Clinton announced her presidential bid via Twitter and a video, and the left-wing mainstream media have celebrated this as somehow better than making an announcement in front of a live audience.
Two reasons for announcing on Twitter and by video versus a live audience jump to mind. One is the fear that she would be announcing at a half-full venue, unless it was someone’s living room, and the other is that Hillary Rodham Clinton is hiding from the press because even the most liberal mainstream media outlets can’t ignore the State Department email scandal.
There was no reason for Hillary Clinton to wipe the hard drive that held all of her State Department emails unless there was something to hide, and that something had to be bad enough for the Clinton team to determine that the bad press would still be better than revealing whatever was on that hard drive. Of course, there is always the chance that those emails have been saved somewhere, it will just be harder to find them.
The argument by Hillary Clinton that the emails to State Department personnel are all archived by the State Department is just a lie because Hillary Clinton’s top aide while secretary of state, Huma Abedin, also had an email account on her server. Certainly not all the emails between Hillary Clinton and Abedin were personal. At some point they must have sent some emails back and forth that dealt with State Department business. If not, why was the State Department paying Abedin a big salary even when she was only a part-time employee.
No doubt when some reporter finally gets the chance to shout a question at Hillary Clinton as she dashes from one private residence in Iowa to another, she will answer, “What difference does it make?”
The late New York Times columnist William Safire, who was an expert on the English language, branded Hillary Clinton a “congenital liar,” and it stuck. Hillary Clinton is one of those rare people who would rather tell a lie than the truth.
It’s not just her missing emails that Hillary Clinton doesn’t want to answer questions about, she has been stumped by being asked what she accomplished as secretary of state. The answer seems to be that she flew over one million miles. Flying over a million miles in a government jet cost the American people a fortune, but what on earth did it accomplish?
She is the first secretary of state since 1978, during the administration of President Jimmy Carter, to have an ambassador killed in the line of duty, and her response to that death and the deaths of three other State Department employees was, “What difference does it make?”
Hillary Clinton has become the Major Major of the presidential race. She claims to be open and transparent, yet she is hiding from the people.
For those of you who aren’t up on World War II fiction. Major Major Major Major, referred to throughout the novel Catch-22 by Joseph Heller as Major Major, would allow his orderly to make an appointment for anyone to see him, but they could only see him when he was out. They would wait and when Major Major had left his office they were allowed in and could stay until Major Major was coming back and then they had to leave before he arrived.
Major Major had been promoted to major by accident. The army computer could not compute Private Major Major Major, so the computer promoted him to Major, much like Hillary Clinton is a presidential candidate, not because of anything she has done on her own, but because of the accident of her marriage.
Hillary “Major Major” Clinton says that she has nothing to hide about her career, including the huge ongoing email scandal. But she has only held one press conference on that email scandal and reporters had to apply for credentials 24 hours in advance to get in the United Nations building where it was held. Since the announcement was made less than 24 hours in advance and the UN did nothing to speed up the credentialing process, the press that was present was not made up of political reporters but UN reporters, and they were allowed a very limited number of questions.
Is the reporter from Turkey covering the UN really up on American politics? Her only press conference on the issue has been in front of mostly foreign reporters.
Hillary Clinton made the announcement of her presidential bid by Twitter and a video. No way the press can ask a video questions. Then she gets in a van and starts traveling toward Iowa.
When is the big speech where she answers questions from the press? She can’t hide for an entire presidential campaign, or can she? The first time she ran for the Senate, she was still the first lady and she used her Secret Service detail to keep the press away from her.
So the press is free to ask Hillary Clinton any question it wants as long as nobody asks Hillary Clinton a question.
What is incredible is that the mainstream media have such undying love for the Clintons that the media are not up in arms over her treatment of them.
Hillary Clinton – who is paid $200,000 for a speech, owns two multimillion homes and has a net worth of over $25 million – is running a campaign based on trashing people who make a lot of money and identifying with the working poor.
Hillary Clinton has not driven a car in over 20 years. It would be interesting to know the last time she was on a commercial flight.
Hopefully, during the campaign, some of the federal government employees who had to work for her, like members of her Secret Service contingent, will come forward with stories about how Hillary Clinton actually treats working men and women. But the only place you will read those stories will be in conservative publications.
This is a woman who, while her husband was governor, borrowed $1,000 from a cattle futures investor and turned it into $100,000 in a matter of months by only making trades that were profitable. She had to be guessing because she had no background in investing in the futures market, much less the cattle futures market, and the most amazing thing is that after making a 10,000 percent profit in a few months, she quit investing in cattle futures, forever.
This is a woman who has always been really interested in making money. If you believe her story, she studied the cattle futures industry so thoroughly that she knew it far better than the top investors. She took the $1,000 that she borrowed and by shrewd investments turned it into $100,000, but then didn’t use that vast knowledge of the cattle futures business to ever invest another dime in it. If she is telling the truth, in a few more months she could have turned that $100,000 into $10 million, and inside of two years could have been worth $100 million, making all of her money worries go away.
When Hillary and Bill Clinton left the White House, according to Hillary Clinton they were “dead broke.” That might explain why they stole the White House furniture, some of which they were forced to return. But it doesn’t explain why she didn’t invest in cattle futures and make a few million to tide them over.
One thing is certain, the mainstream media are not going to delve into Hillary Clinton’s background like they do the Republican presidential candidates.
At her first, small group meeting, there were more press present in the room than supporters, and most of the press was kept outside. There was no report that she answered a single question from the press. But then again there was no report that she was asked any questions by the press, which dutifully stood behind the yellow tape strung across the room to keep the press as far from Hillary Clinton as possible.
Eventually some members of the press who are being treated so poorly by the Hillary Clinton campaign may get tired of being prevented from doing their jobs, even by a candidate most of them worship.
Can you imagine the outcry from the press if a Republican candidate tried to campaign without ever speaking to the press or answering a single question? It would be front-page news in all the mainstream media outlets, but Hillary Clinton is allowed to do it, and so far there has barely been a whimper from the press. Hopefully, at some point, the reporters covering Hillary Clinton will start trying to do their jobs, and it is not their job to do whatever the Hillary Clinton campaign tells them do.
Even President Barack Hussein Obama, who has run the most closed and opaque presidency in modern history, occasionally takes a few questions from the press. Most of them are planted and screened in advance, but every now and then a real reporter steps up and asks a real question.
Everything Hillary Clinton does is so scripted that even supposedly impromptu remarks are written for her and probably put before a focus group before she says them. Which makes the typo from the announcement she is running for president from her campaign committee particularly delightful.
Here it is: “From her mother’s own childhood—in which she was abandoned by her parents—to her work going door-to-door for the Children’s Defense Fund to battling to create the Children’s Health Insurance Program, she’s fought children and their families all her career.”
We added the bold italics, but the rest is copied and pasted from a press release. It is really too rich.
Sen. Marco Rubio made the announcement that he is in the presidential race this week, and he seems to be on the right track, talking about not looking back but looking toward the future. What he should go ahead and say is, does the US really want to be lead by an aging hippy, which is what Hillary Clinton is.
If Bill Clinton were not making millions giving speeches he would be a great candidate for one of those long white ponytails you see on men who were hippies in their youth, cut their hair and worked for 40 years and are now retired. They can’t get their youth back, but at least they don’t have to cut their hair anymore.
